Data Warehouse Engineer

HomeAway is currently looking for a full-time experienced business intelligence and data warehouse developer with 5+ years experience implementing and developing BI/DW applications.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing BI/DW team and get involved in new data warehouse development activities to assist in continuing foundation improvements to the overall usability, scalability, reliability, and performance of an existing data warehousing environment. This position requires deep experience in ETL programming and processing large volumes of data. Much of the activity involved in this position will be new development with future needs for on-call support to assist in the ongoing production support of the deployments.
The following is an outline of the skill sets that will be required to perform the duties of this position:
Data Warehouse Development Skills
- Deep understanding of data warehousing architectures including ETL design, staging, transformations, delta/change data capture, star-schemas, cubes, and history loading
- Solid understanding of dimensional modeling and data mart development
- Background developing ETL auditing capabilities for capturing, reporting, and correcting bad data.
- Experience working in an agile team environment
- Understanding of code promotion, code turnover to operations, version control, and QA procedures
- Conduct code walkthroughs, peer reviews, and produce technical documentation
- Ability to monitor performance of data warehouse and reporting systems to provide ongoing performance tuning. Understanding of how to review logs, explain plans, clean temp files, and other administrative issues required to ensure applications and databases will perform efficiently.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services, Integration Services, and Reporting Services.
- ETL Development experience using other technologies such as OWB, Informatica, or Datastage is also desired but not essential.
- Experience in real-time data capture using complex event processing and certified messaging or ESB is desired but not absolutely critical
Business Intelligence Skills
- Programming experiencing in the Microsoft .Net framework utilizing asp.net, C#. Additional experience implementing and extending open source Java J2EE applications and frameworks.
- Experience implementing Data Visualization technologies and dashboard development environments.
- Good understanding of SQL and MDX. Ability to use MDX in the development of complex reporting applications.
- Experience implementing and developing applications using Tableau, QlikView, and Microsoft PerformancePoint is a plus.
- Must have excellent communication skills to assist in conducting user interview sessions, requirements gathering, and design reviews.
- Must have the ability to be a self-starter and work independently on technical projects but also work collaboratively with project team members through an agile development process that promotes constant team communication.
