full time Software Engineer (Back-End)

The New York Times Company is launching a confidential new business initiative requiring agile teams of talented engineers, technologists and business leaders. We are seeking individuals who have an entrepreneurial spirit, and great passion for building new digital businesses from the ground up. Candidates must be nimble and flexible and thrive in a fast-paced start-up-like environment. Qualified candidates who pass an initial phone screen will be invited for personal interviews under an NDA.

Responsibilities:
• Develop and scale core business and data applications.
• Integrate a diverse set of internal and external data sources, generate and handle large structured and unstructured data.
• Design systems, communicate and work effectively with others, write scalable high quality code and deliver work on schedule.
Qualifications:
• BSc in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 3-5 years of production system experience.
• Proficiency in Python, PHP, MySQL, Mongo DB.
• Proficiency in Ruby on Rails and Hadoop - a plus.
• Be an independent thinker and accountable for work produced.
• Possess high standards with regard to the finished product, and must be concerned about the quality and maintainability of the underlying software.
• Experience in building production digital advertising solutions and/or social media tools – a major plus.
• Experience with .NET and C#/C++ - a plus.
