full time Senior Software Engineer

The New York Times Company is launching a confidential new business initiative requiring agile teams of talented engineers, technologists and business leaders. We are seeking individuals who have an entrepreneurial spirit, and great passion for building new digital businesses from the ground up. Candidates must be nimble and flexible and thrive in a fast-paced start-up-like environment. Qualified candidates who pass an initial phone screen will be invited for personal interviews under an NDA.

Responsibilities:
• Lead large scale development projects for core business and data applications.
• Integrate a diverse set of internal and external data sources, generate and handle large structured and unstructured data.
• Drive architectural and design decisions in regards to systems’ backend, infrastructure and scale.
• Design systems, communicate and work effectively with others, write scalable high quality code and according to schedule.

Qualifications:
• BSc in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• At least 5 years of production system experience.
• Proficiency in Python, MySQL, Mongo DB, and Hadoop.
• Experience with Ruby on Rails is a plus.
• Self-started with an entrepreneurial spirit who can drive projects from inception to rollout.
• Possess high standards with regard to the finished product, and must be concerned about the quality, scale and maintainability of the underlying software.
• At least 1-2 years of experience in building scalable production quality APIs.
• Experience with agile software development methodologies.
• Experience in building production digital advertising solutions and/or social media tools - a major plus.
• Experience with .NET and C#/C++ - a plus.
