Web Designer

Primary objectives:
Assist the project & product managers and implementation teams to complete multiple reporting & analytics projects by working to agreed specifications, instruction and scheduling, and ensuring projects are implemented in accordance with business expectations.
Primary focus will be to take a graphical design concept and render an HTML/XHTML/DHTML implementation of that graphic design that:
Is “bulletproof” against client settings and windows sizes…meaning the essential characteristics of that graphic design work no matter what text size, font selection or windows size at the client;
Is standards compliant and works/displays consistently across common browsers. So need experience building web UI for various flavors of IE, Firefox and maybe even Safari; and
Designs pages that use minimal HTML markup and java script code, and maximizes CSS-based techniques for positioning elements and applying styles. A good designer knows how to render a given graphic and page design in the absolute minimum amount of markup and code to achieve the desired result.
Key Challenges:
Performing project activities in a timely manner whilst ensuring the highest professional standards are maintained
Accurately recording hours worked in timesheet system
Maintaining an effective customer focus at all times
Understanding the business impact of reporting & analytics services upon Quintiles organisation
Keeping abreast of relevant technology and applying within the workplace as appropriate
In conjunction with the Project & Product Managers, liaise effectively between stakeholders to ensure appropriate outcomes
Skills and Experience:
Skills in Photoshop and related technologies.
Preferable skills in iRise and Flex Builder with experience developing prototypes.
Visual Studio/ASP.NET: Knowledge of ASP.NET skinning and master page templates to standardize an ASP.NET application’s web design
SharePoint: Experience leveraging site templates, master pages and CSS to skin a portal-based web application
Heavy CSS experience, specifically in the areas of element positioning and display order. Demonstrated proficiency to solve the types of web design problems listed above. Thorough knowledge on how styles and rules cascade to objects on a page.
Experience applying purely CSS-based alpha-blending and transition effects
Extensive knowledge of HTML/XHTML/DHTML and Javascript
Hands on experience rendering UI’s that work across browsers, specifically IE7, IE8, recent versions of Firefox, and possibly Safari
Sound analytical and problem solving skills
Good organisational, time management and prioritisation skills for working on multiple projects simultaneously and meeting project deadlines
Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Strong written communication and documentation skills
