The Senior Software Engineer position reports to an Engineering Team Lead or directly to Engineering Management and is responsible for designing and implementing software products and services. Senior Software Engineering candidates should have a Bachelors or Masters degree and at least 7 years of experience building webbased software products and services, ideally utilizing open-source tools, in a team environment.

The main duties of this position are as follows:

• Participate in release planning.

• Design and implement product initiatives under general supervision.

• Promote sound development practices.

• Produce accurate estimates and participate in daily task tracking activities.

• Adhere to core design and testing principles set by team and group leadership.

• Deliver high quality products.

• Mentor others.

• Other duties as needed.

Job Requirements and Qualifications include the following:

• Experience with OO development using Python on a Linux platform.

• Experience with web services construction and deployment (SOAP, WSDL and XML).

• Experience with web development (PHP, HTML, JavaScript and CSS are a plus).

• Experience with database design, deployment, migrations, and query optimizations using MySQL.

• Experience with build, release, deployment processes with respect to web service transactions.

• Solid understanding of product release cycles, code repositories, branching, labeling and packaging

protocols and practices.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Other Skills and Technologies that are desirable include:

• Streaming media experience

• Flash and Flash ActionScript

• Apache and SSL

• Large-scale transactional systems

• Agile Software Development methodologies

Senior Developer

• Must be proficient in Python, expert preferred
• Must have one large scale public web project in their portfolio, preferably startup experience
• Must be able to develop with certain architectural considerations in mind at all times, such as: multilingual text, runtime efficiency in a very high load environment, file mgmt in a clustered environment, etc
• Must be self-motivated and eager to utilize the existing team’s business knowledge to advance their own knowledge. We don’t want anyone who wants to squirrel themselves away and read code alone all day. We need to be as efficient as possible in knowledge sharing in order to keep the code generation rate high.
• Must be able to manage time efficiently among multiple projects.
• These tech requirements should be implicit in the criteria above, but nonetheless are imperative:
o OO design
o SQL including indexing and query tuning
o AJAX, including APIs like Google Maps
o RSS and XML feeds in general. We deal with a lot of third party feeds that love to use XML.
o DHTML with CSS and Javascript
o Working knowledge of subversion, including branching and merging
o Must be able to configure a LAMP development environment (If you can do one, you can do them all. In our case “LAMP” means FreeBSD, Apache, MySQL, Webware for Python)
• Bonus abilities:
o FreeBSD administrative knowledge
